Keller supplied, fabricated, delivered and installed 922 driven piles at the Highland Valley Copper mine site.

Keller was awarded a contract for the supply, fabrication, delivery and installation of 922 steel pipe piles – 610 mm and 406 mm diameter at the Highland Valley Copper mine site in Logan Lake, BC. Piles were installed utilizing our 80 Ton Kobelco crane, 150 Ton Link Belt crane, and LRB 255 Liebherr rig in combination with a variety of hydraulic and diesel hammers. 59 of the 922 piles required down the hole hammer drilling due to obstructions.

Supply and installation

  • 9,096 meters of 610 mm pipe
  • 12,140 meters of 406 mm pipe
  • 820 pile shoes
  • 653 splices
  • 107 PDA tests

Challenging pile driving conditions on this project resulted in several areas where conventional top driving techniques were unable to install piles. Keller was able to draw on its extensive industry knowledge to provide a cost effective solution to overcome these conditions. All work was completed below original budget with no rework while achieving an exceptional safety record of zero lost time incidents over close to 20,000 man-hours on site.
